Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)
We believe that quality patient care depends on the training and expertise of the technologist who administers the test and the physician who reads the results. With Mint Medical, you can be assured that our technologists and our physicians have met the type of stringent accreditation requirements that allow us to produce accurate, repeatable results.
IAC Vascular Testing Accreditation Program is “to ensure high quality patient care and to promote health care by providing a mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality vascular diagnostic evaluations by a process of accreditation.” During the accreditation process, laboratories evaluate every aspect of daily operations and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients. While completing the accreditation application, laboratories identify and correct potential problems and revise protocols. Because accreditation is renewed every three years, a long-term commitment to quality is maintained.
The accreditation process is made up of two crucial steps. First, laboratories conduct a detailed self-evaluation using the IAC Standards for Vascular Testing Accreditation and the accreditation application. Completion of the application requires detailed information about the laboratory as well as the submission of actual case studies for review. The case studies are vital in determining the laboratory’s compliance with the IAC Standards and are the basis for measuring the quality of work performed. Once the self-evaluation is completed, the documents and case studies are reviewed by the IAC Vascular Testing Board of Directors. This review is confidential.
In efforts to verify continued compliance by accredited laboratories and in response to the requirements sanctioned by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for CMS appointed Accreditation Organizations as part of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA), the IAC requires all accredited laboratories to undergo an audit/site visit during the three year accreditation period.
Mint Medical has obtained accreditation for several customer facilities in California. There are approximately forty-five (45) facilities that have achieved this recognition throughout the state. From initial application, to accreditation maintenance, to renewal, Mint Medical has the tools and experience to effectively manage the entire accreditation process. In numerous states, reimbursement directives that require accreditation of the laboratory have been instituted. Laboratories attaining accreditation before it is required for reimbursement demonstrate a willingness to surpass current expectations. The general public and members of the non-invasive vascular community recognize an unmatched commitment to providing quality health care by laboratories that achieve IAC accreditation.
